Caleb Shepherd

Rowing

Caleb is in his third year of study at the University of Waikato. He previously attended Hamilton Boys’ High School, where he initially became involved in rowing as a coxswain. As a Hillary Scholar, Caleb will balance a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Writing Studies, with his training schedule in the hopes of representing New Zealand at the 2020 Olympics. Caleb trains year round, and during international campaign season will train up to three times a day, six days a week. He’s gained numerous titles, including silver in the 2011 Junior World Champs men’s coxed four, bronze in the 2012 Under 23 World Champs men’s coxed four and gold in the 2013 and 2014 Under 23 Men’s eight. He coxed the Men's pair that won gold at the Elite World Championships in 2014, setting a new World Best time in the process. He was coxed the NZ Men's Elite 8 since 2015 winning multiple World Cup medals and placing 6th at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016. He aims to continue to improve his skills as a coxswain and leader of his crew while striving to become the best coxswain in the world.
