Calla Knudson-Hollebon : Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Social Sciences (BMUS/BSOCSC)
Music - Voice
Calla is in her first year studying towards a Bachelor of Music majoring in Performance Voice. In November 2015, Calla was soprano soloist for the premiere performance of 'Remember O Thou Man', composed by her mother Karen Knudson. In September she appeared as a soloist for the Knox Church Choir 150th Anniversary dinner. Calla also played the Third Boy in Opera Otago's recent performance of the Magic Flute. In 2014 Calla was a soprano soloist for City Choir Dunedin in their performance of Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb. In 2013 Calla was soprano soloist for St Kilda Brass Band. That same year she played the role of Cosette in Taieri Musical Society's "Les Misérables", where she was subsequently nominated for the OSTA award for 'best supporting female in a play or musical' in Otago/Southland. Calla also attended the 2013 New Zealand Singing School course in January, where she won award for most improved secondary student and was asked to perform at Classics concert. Calla aspires to pursue singing as far as she can, and to train her voice to reach its full potential as an opera singer. She would like to travel overseas to study and perform as a singer. Calla went to Otago Girls' High School where she was the Arts prefect as well as a Cultural Co-ordinator. In March 2014 Calla participated in Shave for a Cure for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer NZ as a part of their 'shave week' by shaving her hair off. Along with 8 other girls, she managed to raise more than $12,400. Last year Calla set up her own pre-school music group through Knox Church where she taught music to 0-5 year olds and also worked with a plunket group in Middlemarch. Alongside this Calla studied a range of subjects at University of Otago including Psychology, Sociology, French and Gender Studies. Calla also loves to paint, mainly with watercolour and acrylic. Currently, Calla is the class representative for her Musicianship class. She hopes to join more groups as she becomes more familiar with Hamilton.
