Sam McCulloch is currently in his third year at the University of Waikato, intending on completing a 4 year degree in environmental engineering. For the past 4 years Sam has been a part of the New Zealand National Performance squad for canoe slalom. In 2015 Sam was selected in the New Zealand team to compete in the junior and under 23 World Championships held in Iquazu, Brazil. Here he made the semi final and completed the race with a final placing of 23rd, this was one of the biggest highlights of his career to this date. In the same year Sam became the overall paddler at the New Zealand nationals, another career highlight. Sam attended secondary school at Dunstan high school, in which he enjoyed thoroughly. Here Sam got among various different leadership roles ranging from Board of Trustees representative to deputy head boy. Dunstan High School provides a large range of opportunities and hence Sam was involved in the schools first XV and multi sport teams. Sam has taken on numerous coaching roles in the past 3 years since beginning is study with Waikato university as well as class rep roles for specific classes.
