Samantha Sinclair : Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS)
Samantha Sinclair has been an avid netballer since she was six years old. Playing primarily mid-court positions, Samantha focuses her training sessions playing for the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic on building a strong base of power, speed and strength. At John Paul College in Rotorua, Samantha was Deputy Head Girl and involved in a number of sports including touch rugby, athletics and basketball. Her commitment to netball soon took over when she captained her school team to their first national competition in 2013. Also during her time at school, she was a member of the New Zealand Secondary Schools team for three years, captaining the side in 2013. Now in her fourth year of playing for the Magic in what is now the ANZ Premiership, Samantha has secured a solid position in the team, taking the court as a reliable, fit and fast centre. She is also a member of the Magic Leadership group for 2017. 2016 was a very successful year for Samantha, which began with winning the NZ conference in the ANZ Championship with the Wai/BOP Magic. Following this campaign she was awarded a Silver Ferns trial where she was named in the Silver Ferns Development Squad and the NZ 'A' team. As a part of this team she played a mini series against England, South Africa and the Silver Ferns. A highlight of 2016 was being named in the Fast5 Ferns that competed at and won the Fast5 World Series in Melbourne. 2016 concluded with selection into the Silvers Ferns team for 2016-2017. This has been a dream for Samantha for as long as she can remember. At the start of 2017 Samantha travelled with the Silver Ferns and debuted in the opening match of the Quad Series against Australia where she played a whole game at wing defence. The tour also included games against England, South Africa and Wales and she gained 5 international test caps. Samantha will balance her netball commitments with studying for a Bachelor of Management Studies, majoring in Marketing and Human Resource management. As well as working to obtain her university degree, she is dedicated to her pursuit of becoming the best netballer in the world.
