Stacey Waaka is a sporting all-rounder, having achieved at high levels in touch rugby, rugby, sevens, netball and hockey. Originally from Ruatoki, Stacey attended Whakatane High School where she was captain of the school’s rugby, touch and netball teams. In her final year she was awarded best all round girl, best all round Māori girl and sportswoman of the year. As a rugby player, Stacey thrives on competition and utilises her training sessions to build on her speed and power on the field. Her training involves at least four rugby training sessions a week with a couple of gym sessions to keep her strength and fitness levels up. Stacey is studying towards a Bachelor of Sport and Leisure Studies, majoring in Sport Management. She hopes to play rugby for the Black Ferns or the New Zealand women’s sevens team and pursue a career in sports marketing or management.
