Kayaker Tess Allen fell in love with the sport by accident after she started kayaking to develop her skills for her surf lifesaving. The technical aspect of kayaking is what Tess loves most about the sport enjoying the challenge of always working towards improvement. Tess has competed at five National Championships and has represented New Zealand at the 2015 Junior World Championships in Portugal, the 2016 Oceania Championships in Adelaide, and the 2016 Junior World Championships in Belarus. She also recently represented New Zealand at the 2017 Grand Prix 2 in Sydney. Her biggest achievements to date include winning two silver medals and two bronze medals at the 2016 Oceania Canoe Sprint Championships and 5th in the K4 500m B finial at the 2016 Junior World Championships. Tess’s future aspirations include going to the Olympics and continuing to represent New Zealand. She will study civil engineering when she begins study at Waikato.
