Zoe Fleming

BMX

A passion towards BMX from the age of 8 has lead former Glendowie College student Zoe Fleming to a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship and Prime Ministers Athlete Scholorship for 2016. The previous Sports Person of the Year, Outdoor Pursuits Prefect and Peer Support Leader from Glendowie College has moved down from Auckland to study Sport and Leisure majoring in Event Management while embracing the many opportunities the Waikato has to offer for BMX. The main reason for studying at The University of Waikato was for the support and opportunities available through the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship allowing her to study and continue pursuing her dreams within BMX. Zoe is going into the new year with positive and high hopes after finishing 2nd at the National Championships for Junior Elite Women, 1st at the North Island Championships for Junior Elite Women, 1st for the Australian National Series for Junior Elite Women and becoming the Junior Elite Women Oceania Champ in 2015!! With her love and dedication towards the sport Zoe hopes to inspire younger girls and encourage them to follow their dreams just as she is doing herself. Balancing training commitments, travel and study isn't enough as she is also one of the Northern Region Development Squad Coaches for 2016, passing down her own experience and knowledge to the many riders within her home region. 2016 is full of many challenges but with the support of the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship Zoe has no doubts in the world and knows that anything is possible thanks to The University of Waikato!
