My Name is Moana
5 May 2017 8:00 PM
Some songs haunt us. They remind us where we’ve been and hint at where we’re going. It’s a bit like Ocean or Moana, that vast expanse of blue, that mysterious watery highway that connects our islands and people.
MY NAME IS MOANA is an intimate 90-‐minute tribute to Ocean led by singer and songwriter Moana Maniapoto, whose music (so interwoven with NZ identity) has taken her from garage parties in South Auckland to exotic stages around the world.
Using an intoxicating mixture of music, myth and personal anecdotes, we discover and share our relationship to Ocean and with each other.
Haere mai! Let Moana and her talented musicians (Trina Maniapoto, Paddy Free and Karlos Tunks-Sanders) host you with their own little garage party. Bring your gat or ukulele. Join them for a delightful showcase of sublime singing and captivating storytelling that will draw you in, make you think, feel, laugh, sing along and possibly even dance.

'Feedback from audience member after performance in Geraldine on this tour:
Moana Concert, Easter Sunday, Town and Country Club
Thank you, Creative New Zealand and our hardworking local Arts Council for bringing us another fabulous concert. Truly an evening of stories, harmonies and entertainment but with a message: look after your country and your living rivers and oceans. With stories from her concerts all over the world, Moana at one point had me wiping my eyes from laughing. Intelligent song writing with an empowering message, lovely harmonies with her sister Trina and other band members and electronic gymnastics from Paddy Free. Entertainment at its best. A brilliant evening.
