ネコの日 Cat Day

今日は日本でネコの日です。どうして今日なのでしょうか。 It is National Cat Day in Japan today. Why today, can you guess? 日本語でねこの鳴[な]き声[ごえ]は「にゃあ」と表現[ひょうげん]します(= to express; to describe)。「にゃあ」の発音[はつおん](=pronunciation )と、数字の2(に)の発音がちょっと似[に]ています。今日は2月22日で「にゃあ」が3つだから、ネコの日なのです。 いろいろ調[しら]べると、国によっていろいろなネコの日があることがわかりました。アメリカは10月29日、ロシアは3月1日、ヨーロッパの多[おお]くの国は2月17日だそうです。おもしろいですね。 In Japanese, cats meowing is described ‘nyaa’, This sound is somehow similar to ‘ni’ (which means ‘two’ in Japanese).
