| A
political mock-documentary which follows the final stages of the
Pennsylvania senatorial campaign of Bob Roberts, during the lead-up
to the Gulf War. The film is presented by 'Terry Manchester', a
British journalist who rides along with Roberts and his campaign
team of young professionals, and encounters both supporters and
opponents of Roberts' archetypal brand of conservatism. The film
works effectively as both a critique of modern American conservatism
during the Reagan and Bush eras, and a wider attack on the nature
of the modern American political process (including the news media)
which allows candidates like Roberts to be successful. |
