How to use the index
The index has had to be split into four sections to make it manageable in
size. These are

This index is designed for use in the simplest and quickest ways. Use
the search button in your browser to search for keywords inside each page.
If connection time is at a premium, save this page as text and open using
your word processor. Then use the 'find' or 'search' command to look for
authors, artists and so on.
There is a search engine for the whole of the Screen and Medias Studies
site at the University of Waikato, including these pages, at S&M Search
In the interests of simple searching, we have tried to provide the following
information:
- author of the article
- title of the article
- issue, date and pages of article. Issue is given as n1, n23 etcetera,
so you can search contents of issues
- name of artist(s) considered
- media involved (eg film, painting, performance, phototext)
- geographical and/or national information. Note that this is an aid
to finding, for example, artists working in Malaysia, regardless of cultural
background, as well as artists, say, of the Chinese diaspora. Discussions
of the value of such labels will frequently be found in articles, especially
where two words are used (eg Native American). Note also that this kind of
phrase is written without hyphens, to allow searches to discover other links.
Search under adjective as well as country (eg British, as well as Britain)
- for many purposes, a text search will give results if you use 'partial word'
(eg 'Brit', 'Australia', 'Chican')
- the word 'woman' or 'women' is added to allow searches by feminist
scholars.
- historical dates where relevant, given as 19th century, 40s
- major concepts employed, especially in theory essays
- a highlighted button> Ill< connecting to the gallery of images
will be added, where available
