The Cleaning Service provides ongoing management and supervision of all aspects of the maintenance of cleanliness and removal of waste on Campus. Approximately 40% of this service is provided by way of Contractors. It is coordinated by Hemi Dean, who is contactable by email hdean@waikato.ac.nz, phone [07] 838 4095, fax [07] 838 4108, or a message can be left by emailing our Service Desk, or by phoning [07] 838 4001.

The Cleaning Service

Manages the provision of a satisfactory standard of cleanliness to University facilities, generally involving:

1. Once weekly clean of all offices.
2. Daily emptying of rubbish bins if left in corridor.
3. Teaching spaces are thoroughly cleaned once per week and then spot cleaned the remaining days of the week.
4. Two to four times weekly clean public areas.
5. Clean toilets and tearooms daily.

Supervises all contractors employed, ensuring compliance with University Regulations and Acts such as the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992.

Provides a window cleaning service at least once yearly, and mostly twice yearly.

Has staff available between the hours of 5.30am and 4.30pm week days for adhoc cleaning assignments such as graffiti, vomit etc.  Contact FMD Service Desk, extension 4001.

Ensures that such matters as waste disposal, pest destruction, sanitary waste disposal, are handled efficiently.

Is generally being available to respond to special needs of Cost Centre's, as resources permit.
