Research

The University of Waikato is one of New Zealand's major
research organisations, playing a key role in the local economy and
making a significant contribution to national innovation. We are at the
centre of a network of research institutions and industry in the
Waikato that is responsible for 25 percent of New Zealand's research
output - an engine room for our country's social and economic growth. Research is also our University's lifeblood with research-related
activities providing a quarter of our revenue. It informs our teaching
and advances the knowledge we share with our communities.
Research is painstaking; it takes time and is expensive to
do. However, investment in research is critical if New Zealand is to be
well-equipped to take advantage of emerging technologies and to step
into the top ranks of equivalent OECD countries. Research is also key
to attracting and retaining the best and brightest minds.
There are many ways in which you can invest in our research
programmes - endowing a Chair, supporting postgraduate or summer
research scholarships, funding existing or new research projects, or
helping to fund equipment or other resources. Funding for visiting
fellowships, academic exchanges and attendances at conferences are also
worthwhile ways to give support, providing valuable opportunities for
networking and exchanging knowledge.
