University of Waikato Network
The University network allows staff and students to use wired or wireless connections. Staff desktops, laptops using a docking station and student lab computers generally have a wired connection whereas most laptops and mobile devices such as tablets and mobile phones connect using wireless.
Wireless information can be found under Network & Internet > Wireless Networks in this site.
Student Wired Connectivity
There are some computers in the student labs that have wired connections. The Halls also allow wired connections for student laptops. These can sometimes have more stable access than wireless when a number of people are connected at the same time. See Student Internet (wired info is at the bottom of the page).
The University has established a Guest network for use by visitors to the campus that require Internet access for presentations, guest lectures etc. The Guest network connectivity is available via the UOW Guest wireless network, or via wired network ports by request. See Guest Network.
Guests from participating institutions can use the Eduroam wireless network and login using their home institution network login and password.
Shared Network Drives
Staff and students have a Home share (H: Drive) for personal storage of files which is automatically placed in your Computer (on the desktop) when you log in or can be accessed via Web Drive/Web Home from the staff and student landing pages.
All faculties and departments have a shared drive to store files so they can be accessed by the relevant staff. To get access to these once they have the necessary permissions staff must map the drive to their computer. See Map a Network Drive for details.
The University has provided a Self Service tool through which you can log your own tickets (jobs). You can also search for a previously logged ticket to check it's status. For urgent jobs you can phone the ITS Service Desk: ext 4008 (838 4008) for support.
