Introduction

The (IGCI) International Global Change Institute's goal is to integrate knowledge on the natural and human dimensions of global environmental change for use in policy development and decision-making. It is a self-funding unit within the University of Waikato (Hamilton, New Zealand).

Why IGCI?

International
International because our operations and projects activities extend overseas, especially to the Asia-Pacific and the southern hemisphere regions.
Global
Global because we address issues that are transactional both in their cause and consequences.
Change
Change because we focus on problems stemming from the dynamic interactions between human and natural systems.
Institute
Institute because we pursue managing environmental change though an association of selected individuals and organizations on problems of common concern.

Who we are

The International Global Change Institute (ICGI) is a semi-autonomous, mainly financially self-supporting Institute within the University of Waikato. It provides a focus on research and training on the human dimensions of global environmental change, adhering to an interdisciplinary and integrative approach on local, regional, national and global levels with respect to climate impacts, risk assessment and adaptation strategies, integrated assessment and modelling, climate proofing, environmental planning & governance, sustainable community development, health and environment, coastal assessment and management, and natural hazards. The IGCI supervises higher degree (MPhil and PhD) students, which complement the Institute's areas of research.
