 Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation in Viti Levu, Fiji

Sea Level Rise in Fiji PACCLIM incoporates Fiji climate, elevation and soils dataPACCLIM training in Cook IslandsCoastal erosion in Viti Levu, FIJI

Goal:

  • To provide technical assistance in the completion of the Fiji Climate Change Vulnerability and Adaptation Assessment, as part of the Fiji National Communications to the UNFCCC[1].

  • To provide assistance in finalizing the sectoral working papers presented at the Asia Pacific Network \ World Bank Workshop held in August 1999.

Objectives

Conduct Workshops with the Department of Environment in the completion of sectoral papers presented at the APN\World Bank workshop.

Develop PACCLIM[2] further with FIJI climate, elevation and soils data.

Background

During 1999, a prototype version of the PACCLIM model was developed, incorporating:

  • A regional scenario generator;

  • Fiji climate, elevation and soils data;

  • Kiribati climate data.

The incremental cost of this development was funded through SPREP/PICCAP[3] and the World Bank.  The Department of Environment, through PICCAP Fiji, have also contributed by bearing the cost of the Fiji elevation and soil data.
