What is the Open Category?
The New Zealand Development Scholarships (NZDS) are awarded by NZAID (New Zealand Agency for International Development) on behalf of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT). It is a non-bilateral scheme available to candidates of some developing countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Pacific.
Open Category Scholarships are for full time multi-year postgraduate level courses at eligible New Zealand institutions.
Applicants are required to specify the developmental relevance and benefit of the course and provide a detailed account of the field in which they wish to conduct research. A supporting statement is also required from applicants, which shows clearly that consideration has been given to how the new skills and experience will be applied on their return home.
There is limited provision for bridging courses and English Language training.
