Programme outline (provisional)
A detailed programme is being prepared. Meanwhile the outline is as follows:
Sunday, 10th July:
5.30pm Welcoming protocols at Waipapa, the University marae, Alten Road . Elders of the local tribe – Ngati Whatua o Orakei – will welcome delegates in traditional fashion into a beautiful carved meeting house. The features of the house, which graphically portray the myths and the history of Maori, will be explained after the protocols of welcome. There will then be a meal provided –the cost is included in the registration fee. Following the meal will be a keynote address in the meeting house by Chief Judge Joe Williams , Chairperson of the Waitangi Tribunal: “Law, history, time and timelessness”. David Ritter will provide a comment after the address, followed by a question and answer session. There will be a paper “The power of waiata” (Matiu Dickson) to conclude the first day's session.
Monday, 11th July:
Old Government House, Waterloo Quadrant.
9.00-10.30am Parallel sessions of conference papers commence.
10.30-11.00am Morning tea.
11.00am-12.30pm Parallel sessions of conference papers continue.
12.30-1.30pm Lunch.
1.30-3.00pm Parallel sessions of conference papers continue.
3.00-3.30pm Afternoon tea
3.30-5.00pm Parallel sessions of conference papers continue.
5.00pm AGM of the ANZLHS
The registration fee covers the teas and lunch each day.
Northern Club, Princes Street.
Bar opens from 6.30pm. Professor Mike Taggart will speak at 7.00pm: “Turning the graveyard of legal scholarship into a garden: Common Law festschriften”. Dinner follows. The $90 dinner cost includes wine. It is in addition to the registration fee.
Tuesday, 12th July:

9.00-10.30am Parallel sessions of conference papers commence.
10.30-11.00am Morning tea.
11.00am-12.30pm Keynote address by Justice Paul Finn , Federal Court of Australia, on cases about the role of history in litigation as observed from the bench by a sometime academic. The address will be followed by questions and answers and then an open plenary session of informal contributions relating to the theme of the conference and issues raised in both keynote addresses.
12.30-1.30pm Lunch.
1.30-3.00pm Parallel sessions of conference papers continue.
3.00-3.30pm Afternoon tea
3.30-5.00pm Parallel sessions of conference papers continue.
5.00pm Bar will be open in Old Government House for those who can linger, especially those of us who are remaining in Auckland to attend the British World Conference IV commencing on 13th July:
