Our Facilities
Law Library
The Law Library is a modern, well-equipped research library. It is housed in a separate collection on the 4th floor of the main university library, providing the strengths of a specialist collection with easy access to the facilities and resources of the main library. The library is open seven days a week, and provides facilities for individual and group study, photocopying and computing.
It provides the reference materials and information that students need to study law and do legal research. Specialist staff are available to help with finding information and teaching students how to use the resources. The library holds a substantial collection of New Zealand and overseas statutes, law reports, commentaries, periodicals and textbooks. It is especially well resourced in Maori and indigenous materials and law in context, to reflect the emphasis of Te Piringa - Faculty of Law.
There is also growing emphasis on the use of computer databases to access legal materials, and where possible these are made available via the internet so that off-campus, 24-hour access is available to students.
The Law Library has it's own homepage within the University Library website and provides access to online databases.
Computer Facilities
The Faculty is at the forefront of the use of technology in legal education. There are two student computer labs for law student use, and every Waikato Student is provided with an email account and has access to printing and internet facilities.
The Legal Teaching Laboratory is used in the teaching of IT and legal databases, and for general use. The Legal Writing Laboratory is available for general use by law students. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Access to these labs is available via the University security swipecard system.
The student labs house 50 modern PCs, running Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010 with a mixture of database and utility packages. Colour printing is available.
Two computer consultants support teaching and research in Te Piringa - Faculty of Law and the Law Library.
Graduate Computing
Graduates, in addition to the general computer labs, are provided with computer access through a dedicated graduate computer lab.
Graduates have access to computing support and library advice to help them in their use of these information resources.
Student Hub
The University has recently upgraded the on-site shopping complex and is currently building a new
student centre where students and staff will be able to meet, interact and learn from one other.
