Joel Manyam

Mr Joel Manyam - Senior Lecturer

DipEd SPac LLB Cant MTaxS (Hons) Auck

Joel Manyam graduated with a Diploma in Education from the University of the South Pacific, and was awarded the Narseys Limited Gold Medal in Education for being the outstanding graduate in his year.

He was previously a high school teacher and later graduated LLB Cant and has practised in the areas of commercial and property law. His other work experience includes a period of almost ten years as a tax lawyer, advising senior officials of the IRD on a comprehensive range of tax matters, including the negotiation of tax disputes.

Joel has acted as Counsel for the Commissioner of Inland Revenue in bankruptcies, liquidations and insolvency-related proceedings in the High Court, tax hearings before the Taxation Review Authority, prosecution action for tax law offences in the District Court, and child support matters in the Family Court.

Joel holds a Masters degree in Taxation Studies with First Class Honours from Auckland University, and has served on a national panel of experts writing on the taxation laws of New Zealand.

He is the author of twelve chapters on New Zealand's tax laws in "Smart Tax", a publication for tax professionals, published by Brooker's. Joel is a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.
