Is the law’s potential for peace making and peace keeping realised?
His Honour Sir David Baragwanath sits as one of the Appeals Chamber Judges and prior to that has served as President of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.
Sir David will talk about establishment of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) by the United Nations Security Council in light of Lebanon’s unique circumstances and threats to international peace and security.
The lecture will review the Special Tribunal and its place in international law and the Hague system. The STL is one of over 30 international institutions at the Hague contributing to the immense combined experience in international law and particularly international criminal law. Sir David will draw on his wide experience and reflect on the use of law to realise its potential for peace.
