Postgraduate Degree Scholarships
New Zealand Law Foundation Ethel Benjamin Scholarship for Women (Universities NZ)
This award was established to support postgraduate research in Law that encompasses the wider objectives of the NZ Law Foundation, in particular research that will protect and promote the interests of the public in relation to legal matters in New Zealand.
A Scholarship may be awarded to any woman scholar who is the holder of a New Zealand university law degree and is accepted into a postgraduate course in law at either a New Zealand or an overseas university acceptable to the Selection Committee.
The Scholarships range in value from $20,000 (for study in NZ) up to $50,000 (for study overseas).

New Zealand Law Foundation Doctoral Scholarship (in Law)
The purpose of the New Zealand Law Foundation Doctoral Scholarship is to encourage postgraduate study and research in law in New Zealand. The scholarship will be awarded to a doctoral candidate who will carry out research in a defined area of the law which is for the benefit of New Zealand and its legal system, and which encompasses the wider objectives of the New Zealand Law Foundation.
A scholarship may be awarded to any person who is the holder of a masters or honours degree of a university in New Zealand or elsewhere, or any equivalent qualification.
One scholarship of $35,000 per year (which is intended to include tuition fees) may be awarded annually. Applications close 1 October. Decisions made November.

University of Waikato Doctoral Scholarship
The general University of Waikato Doctoral Scholarship is offered by the Scholarships Committee on behalf of the Academic Board, normally twice a year, to full-time candidates for a Doctoral degree at the University of Waikato. Candidates for the award must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand and are awarded on academic merit with a minimum grade of A- required for eligibility. A scholarship may only be taken up by a candidate who has formally completed the requirements of the qualifying degree.
In 2011, the total value of the Scholarships offered were a living allowance of up to $22,000.00 per annum (payable in monthly instalments) and an amount equal to the annual tuition fees payable during the term of the Scholarship. A thesis preparation allowance of up to $400 is also available, provided the thesis is submitted within four years of full-time doctoral enrolment.
