March 22, 2009 - March 28, 2009

This page provides a weekly view of the events that occurred or are planned for the week: March 22, 2009 - March 28, 2009.

The builders will be cutting through the old concrete floors over the next few days. As a consequence, you might find the noise levels uncomfortable in particular areas from time to time . The area near the hoardings on Level 1 is likely to be the worst today.

If you find the noise interferring with your ability to study today, we suggest that you take a wander round the Library as some areas are still quiet.  At the time of posting this, there were some group study rooms still available: www.waikato.ac.nz/php/library/bookings/day.php

The Education Library is a construction-free zone that is available to all University of Waikato students.  There are study carrels on both the second and third floors, and several group tables on the third floor.

There is currently a lot of work happening behind the construction hoardings in the Library.  This is creating intermittent higher levels of noise in certain parts of the Library.   There are study desks on every level so if one area is noisy you may well find a move to another area helpful.

Thanks to those of you who have let us know that classes in the Z Centre are being adversely impacted by the noise from the adjoining construction area.

We are pleased to say that the  builders will be placing acoustic insulation batts in the void above the  wall between their work area and the teaching room. They will also line the existing wall with an extra layer of ply which should further dampen down the noise.

Demolition is now complete in that area, but it is likely that there will still be some noisy activity for the next 2-3 weeks.
