Organisational Learning, Knowledge Management and Sustainability
The purpose of this guide is to help you locate and use those library
resources most relevant to your research. The library spends much of its time
and money on collecting, organizing, and making available to you high-quality
resources. Please make use of these resources when you are doing your research,
assignment, and projects.
Organisational Learning
"This is the learning process used in an organisation. It deals with the
question of how individuals in the organisation learn" (Tsang, 1997)
Learning Organisations
This is where learning takes place that moves an organisation to a desired
state; one "where people continually expand their capacity to create the
results they truly desire ... and where people are continually learning how to
learn together.
Today and in the future, the organizations that will truly excel will be the
ones that discover how to tap people's commitment and capacity to learn at all
levels in an organization. Learning organizations are fundamentally different
from traditional authoritarian controlling organizations." - Senge
Knowledge Management
This is the process for creating, managing an distributing the knowledge used
in organisational learning.
Library Catalogue
The Library Catalogue is a good starting point. When searching for materials on a particular topic, use KEYWORD BOOLEAN
searching. Use basic Boolean Operators (AND, OR, NOT). Remember to use alternative terms, related terms,
synonyms and truncation to broaden your search.
The catalogue lists only journal titles, not article titles. For article titles you need to use the databases on
Library Link (Management) or
MyWeb.
If you are working off campus, remember to LOGIN on the first page of the catalogue, so that you can access online journals through links on the catalogue.
Items on the same subject will be in the same call number range and this is useful if you want to browse the shelves for
information on a particular topic.
Search terms
It is very important to find your search terms or key words and create a search strategy to
do an effective search.
Some examples are:
Business for social responsibility, Cognitive mapping, Collaborative
technologies and organisational learning, Knowledge management, Learning organisations, Mental models,
Organisational change, Organisational learning, Personal mastery, Shared vision, Spirituality in workplace,
Sustainable development, Sustainability, Systems thinking, Team learning, Teams in the workplace,
Triple bottom line, Workplace innovation,
Workplace learning.
