Referencing styles

  • there are several different referencing styles, such as: APA, MHRA, MLA and Harvard
  • each style includes the same basic parts of a citation, but organises them slightly differently
  • the style used depends on the subject you are working in
  • no particular style has been used in the reading list example but the referencing is consistent
  • check with your school of study to ensure that you are using the correct style
Referencing styles fit into three main categories:
  • note system
  • author/date system
  • author /page system
