Fiji Language Week - Macawa Ni Vosa Vakaviti

Bula, Fijian Language Week starts on Monday 5th October 2015 and this year the University of Waikato Library are running a couple of competitions to celebrate and promote the language!

Get Involved and Learn the Language

Here's some words and phrases you can try:

  • Hello – Ni sa bula (nee sahm boola) or bula (mboola) for short
  • Goodbye – Ni sa moce (nee sa mo-they)
  • Good morning – Ni sa yadra (nee sa yandra)
  • Yes – Io (ee-o)
  • No – Sega (senga)
  • Please – Yalo vinaka (yalo vee-nahka)
  • Excuse me – Tolou (too low)
  • Thank you – Vinaka (vee-nahka)

The Library will create a Fijian Language Week display that will be available on Monday 5th October 2015, on L2 of the Student Centre. You’ll find Dictionaries and other useful resources to help you.

A winner will be selected! Whose name will be announced on the Library - University of Waikato Facebook page on Friday 9th October 2015 at 12:00pm. So make sure you upload your video before 11:00am to be in with a chance! Vanuinui Vinaka! Goodluck!

Well, here’s your chance to have a crack at winning one! All you have to do is look at the images and, based on the provided letters and spaces, guess the word.

To be in to win, you must place your entry into the box provided at the Fijian Language Week display that will be available on Monday 5th October 2015, on L2 of the Student Centre. You’ll also find Dictionaries and other useful resources to help you.

A draw will take place and the winner will be announced on the Library - University of Waikato Facebook page on Friday 9th October 2015 at 12:00pm, so make sure you get your entries in before 11am!
