Advertising Standards Authority Inc

Jurisdiction The prime function of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is to self-regulate advertising in New Zealand. The ASA maintains acceptable standards of advertising, and funds the Advertising Standards Complaints Board (ASCB) .
Codes of practice for specific categories of advertising was developed and is maintained by the ASA, in consultation with interested groups and government departments.

Broadcasting Standards Authority

Jurisdiction An independent statutory body responsible for overseeing the maintenance of acceptable standards on radio and television. Among other activities it sets out the Codes and Standards, deals with formal complaints about broadcasting standards, and allocates funds to eligible political parties advertising prior to elections.
It does not generally deal with matters relating to advertising standards other than in regard to political party advertising.

Environmental Risk Management Authority - ERMA New Zealand

Jurisdiction Among other activities, ERMA New Zealand assesses applications for approval of the use, development and importing of new organisms and hazardous substances, under Part V of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996. This includes determining whether or not an organism is a "new organism".

Financial Markets Authority

Jurisdiction The Financial Markets Authority enforces securities, financial reporting, and company law as they apply to financial services and securities markets. The Authority also regulate securities exchanges, financial advisers and brokers, trustees and issuers.

International Education Appeal Authority

Jurisdiction The International Education Appeal Authority (IEAA) is an independent body that deals with complaints from international students about the care and support they receive from their education provider or the provider's agent.
Governing legislation The IEAA enforces the standards of the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students which provides a framework to ensure all international students are well informed, safe and properly cared for while in New Zealand.

Legal Aid Review Authority

Jurisdiction The Authority reviews decisions made by the Secretary for Justice regarding the granting of legal aid, awarding costs against a legally aided opponent, and the amount payable to a listed provider (under transitionary powers). It was established in July 2011.

Liquor Licensing Authority

Jurisdiction Deals with on-licence, off-licence and club liquor licence applications, or applications for variations on licences. It also deals with applications for suspension and cancellation of liquor licences and hears appeals against decisions of the District Licensing Agencies.

Maritime New Zealand (formerly Maritime Safety Authority)

Jurisdiction Maritime New Zealand is a Crown entity established in 1993 as the Maritime Safety Authority. It was renamed Maritime New Zealand in July 2005. Among other things MNZ is responsible for developing and monitoring maritime safety and marine protection rules, and investigating maritime accidents.

Wild Animal Recovery Service Appeal Authority
