Jurisdiction Among other activities, the Office determines the classification of publications submitted to it, and any restrictions to be placed on these publications for public viewing.

Administering body The Office is a Crown entity. The Ministry of Justice is responsible for administering the Films, Videos and Publications Act 1993. The Classification Office is funded by the Department of Internal Affairs, and the Chief Censor is accountable to the Minister of Internal Affairs.
