Building Disputes Tribunal | Te Taraipiunura mō ngā Tautohe Whare

Jurisdiction The Tribunal is an independent entity, set up in 1996. It is an Authorised Nominating Authority under the Construction Contracts Act 2002 for the purpose of nominating adjudicators to determine building and construction disputes.

Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal

Jurisdiction The Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal was set up in 2004. It hears and determines disciplinary proceedings brought against health practitioners. This Tribunal replaces the Medical Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal

Immigration Advisers Complaints and Disciplinary Tribunal

Jurisdiction The Tribunal deals with appeals against decisions made by the Immigration Advisers Authority (IAA). It also also decides on matters involving immigration advisers who are referred to it by the IAA, and on whether an immigration advisor's licence should be suspended pending a final decision by the Authority.

Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal

Jurisdiction The Tribunal hears and determines disciplinary charges against the legal and conveyancing professions. These charges are referred to it by a standards committee of the New Zealand Law Society or New Zealand Society of Conveyancers, or the Legal Complaints Review Officer. The Tribunal also deals with legal matters that relate to employment, registration, revocations and appeals made to it.

Mental Health Review Tribunal

Jurisdiction On application from individuals, or on its own impetus, the Tribunal may review and decide whether a patient subject to a compulsory treatment order should have that status removed or continued. May also review investigations by a district inspector if a patient is not satisfied with the outcome of such an investigation.

Administering body Ultimately accountable to the Minister of Health. The Director of Mental Health is responsible for overall administration of the Act and oversees the Tribunal to some extent.

Jurisdiction The Real Estate Agents Disciplinary Tribunal deals with matters relating to the licensing and discipline of persons licensed under legislation to carry out real estate agency work. Sports Tribunal of New Zealand

Jurisdiction The Sports Tribunal of New Zealand was established in 2003 by the Board of Sport and Recreation New Zealand under section 8(i) of the Sport and Recreation New Zealand Act 2002 under the name of the Sports Disputes Tribunal of New Zealand. It has been continued under its present name by section 29 of the Sports Anti-Doping Act 2006.

Teachers' Disciplinary Tribunal

Jurisdiction An independent quasi-judicial body of the New Zealand Teachers Council that considers cases of serious misconduct or convictions that warrant consideration by the Disciplinary Tribunal.  Appeals against the Council’s  decisions are heard in the District Court.

Waitangi Tribunal Te Rōpū Whakamana i te Tiriti o Waitangi

Jurisdiction Considers inquiries into claims brought against the Crown by Maori in relation to issues surrounding the Treaty of Waitangi. Within the terms of the governing legislation, it makes recommendations to government on how such issues may be resolved. The government is generally not legally bound to follow such recommendations.
