Services for Alumni

Borrowing from the Library

Alumni of the University of Waikato may join the Library at a cost of $100 per year.

Life members of the Alumni Association may join the Library at a discounted cost of $50 per year. To become a Life member, please refer to the Alumni web page.

Library privileges are obtained by presenting your Alumni Membership card or your Alumni Life Membership card at the Borrower Enquiries counter, together with a passport-sized photograph of yourself.

Rights and Responsiblities

• Book limit - 10 books
• Loan period - 1 month
• Fines of 25 cents per day apply to overdue items
• All items are subject to recall. Recall and short term loans overdues fines are $3.00 per day
• Items are renewable unless required by another borrower
• Borrowers may reserve but not recall items
• All borrowing must be done in person. No email or telephone requests are accepted
• Normal University of Waikato lending policy applies at all times

Database access for Life Members

Some licence agreements signed between The University of Waikato Library and respective vendors and/or publishers allow for Life Members of the Alumni Association to access their databases.  The Library has also negotiated and extended its licence with Proquest Information and Learning and with Thomson Gale to enable Life Members of the Alumni Association to also have access to their databases. 

You do not need to be a member of the Library to access these databases, but you do need to be a Life Member of the Alumni Association. To become a Life Member and register for the Proquest and EPIC services, please contact the Alumni Office.

Once registered, access is available from anywhere - you don't need to be on campus. Authentication is by means of username/password login which will be given to you by the Alumni Office upon registration.

Having Trouble Accessing the Databases?

Alumni members may only access the databases available to them from the list above.

If you are working from behind a firewall, e.g. from within a company network, port 2248 must be open to allow access. Your network administrator will be able to help.

If there is an issue with your username/password, please contact the Alumni Office.

If you need help with using the databases, please use their help facilities or the WISE online tutorial (the Finding Articles module), or, if you are prepared to come in to the Library, you may ring the Library Information Desk on 07 856 2889 ext 8169 and request a 15 minute individual help session.
