Computing Areas

Each level of the Student Centre has computers, printing and laptop connectivity. There is also a computing area in the Teaching Resources Library.

Using the Library Computers

You will need a University of Waikato computer account to use these computers. If you're a new user, you might need to activate your user account. To print and photocopy you will need to register your Student ID card and load money on to it. See also UniCash. Enrolled University of Waikato students have free internet access via UOW Students, when using these computers and when using campus WiFi. For more information see the E-Guide.

Laptops & Other Devices

There are internet access points and power points all over the Student Centre for use with portable devices.

Laptops can be borrowed from the Student Centre Level 2 Service Desk and the Teaching Resources Library Service Desk. The loan period is two hours. Unfortunately, theft can be a problem and you are responsible for the replacement cost of a laptop that is not returned. Please do not leave these unattended. See also Library Regulations.

Computer Availability

The Student Centre Computer Availability page will tell you how many computers are in use in each room and how many are currently available.

Computers with Chinese/Japanese/Korean Characters

All the computers in the Student Centre and at the Teaching Resources Library are set up so that web pages in Chinese, Japanese or Korean may be viewed and support for these fonts has been enabled for the Microsoft Office software as well.

Computers with EndNote Installed

EndNote is installed on the majority of University computers; if EndNote is not installed on a computer you are using, please contact the computer support person for your department/faculty.

If you would like a personal copy, see the Use EndNote guide to find out how.

DVD Players

There are video players that will play both VHS videocassette tapes and DVDs found in the east wing of the Student Centre on Level 2. There is also a Blu-ray player. Remote controls are available from the Library Enquiries Desk.
