EndNote
EndNote is a bibliographic software program used to manage references (citations) downloaded from databases, library catalogues or created manually. The program automatically formats the saved citations in a number of standard reference formats. EndNote is also capable of saving full-text articles (in PDF format and/or in text).

Additional Files
Download UoW Referencing/Output Styles, Filters and Connection Files.
Styles - Referencing styles used at University of Waikato
Output styles are the referencing styles that are used to control the formatting of references in a bibliography. UoW styles are NOT automatically loaded in the EndNote programme. Library staff have created styles for APA 6th, MHRA, Harvard Science, Harvard Geography, Law, Anthropology and Politics. Find them at the UoW EndNote Support webpage and save the styles you require. (See Where do I save?)
- The complete list of styles is available on the EndNote Output Styles webpag
- Styles for some Australian journals are at University of Queensland Library EndNote styles
- Self-teaching tutorials on writing Endnote output styles are at Creating EndNote Output Styles and at Working with referencing styles.
Filters - for downloading references from databases
Filters are available freely from many websites. A list of recommended websites is as follows:
A filter for the Library Catalogue is available and can be downloaded from UoW EndNote Support. See these instructions [231 kb] for downloading and using the filter. Download the file/s and save. (See Where do I save?)
Connection files – downloading from library catalogues
Connection files are used to connect to library catalogues through EndNote. The Waikato connection file can be obtained from UoW EndNote Support. Download the file/s and save. (See Where do I save?)
Where do I Save?
Depending on your computer operating system, your files can be saved according to the paths listed below.
Windows XP
C:\Program Files\EndNoteX5\Styles\
Windows Vista and Windows 7
C:\Users\(your login)\Documents\EndNote\Styles\
C:\Documents and Settings\(your login)\My Documents\EndNote\Styles\
Upgrading
Before you upgrade, note X5’s compatibility requirements. If you are upgrading your EndNote version, it is recommended that you uninstall earlier versions. Before you uninstall an older version, you must backup any styles, import filters and connection files that you don't want overwritten. Then save them to the correct location in:
C:\Program Files\EndNote\
Otherwise, it may be necessary to retrieve additional styles required from EndNote.com or the UoW EndNote Support webpage.
