WISE: Classification systems: Library of Congress
All libraries arrange or classify material according to the subject or
topic, rather than colour or size. In this Library, the Library of Congress
Classification System is used to decide the main subjects. The letters
of the alphabet represent these subjects.

number), which is a combination of letters and numbers e.g. DU400.B328
1998, that is used to arrange the item on the shelf.
