Insurance is a tool for managing risk and premiums are the price you pay.  Financial-literacy helps us get value for money.  Financial products like insurance are not always easy to compare, making it difficult to avoid paying a premium premium, i.e. too much.

Is bankruptcy a good way to avoid repaying a student loan.  The idea has arisen again http://rnz.to/Pbljh2  and the key thing is to know aht you are doing, http://www.insolvency.govt.nz/cms

Insurance is a means of hedging risk, which is a fancy way of saying we use insurance to manage our risk exposures for car, home, travel, health etc. We pay a premium (fee) for an insurance company to bear the risk. However, do we know what we are really buying?

With freedom comes temptation to spend and it won't necessarily be a stairway to heaven.  Get advice early if troubles start to arise.

Mention the need for a budget and people want to head the other direction. Unfortunately for many the other direction is a stairwell to financial disaster. We need to think about the basic issues, we need to be financially literate to live long and prosper.

Reading between the lines is an expression which suggests a need to: to try to understand what is meant by something that is not written explicitly or openly and in financial literacy this is a very necessary skill.  Diana Clement: Be cautious with credit card travel insurance, http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11215966  points to some really interesting pitfalls.  We might think that everything is covered but not so.

The need to understand legal wording is often beyond most of us; it is good to know that there are services like the Insurance Ombudsman to whom we can turn.

Financial literacy is lacking for many of us and the causes, the potential remedies and the costs all require careful research.

Value and political commentary are not necessarily the same thing. A new issue of share to the public will be successful or not depending on how investors perceive value.
The suggestion of shares needing to be sold at a discount suggests there is an intrinsic real value that differs from what the market will pay. This not good thinking; if people won't pay more, then that’s all it's worth. Perhaps in a different time period the price would differ and so would the price of other things.

We might think value is in the mind of the individual but in a market for goods and services price is important.  Nothing is free – searching for specials takes time, travelling across town for a lower price uses petrol or incurs transport costs.
