Students find lots of options at Waikato University's Tauranga open day
10 June 2011
Lessons Learned: Secondary school students attend the annual Open Day at the Windermere campus in Tauranga.
Secondary school students converged on the Windermere campus today to find out about the programmes offered at the University of Waikato and the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic.
The annual Open Day gives visiting school students, and those considering tertiary study as mature students, a taste of campus life.
Students found out about the growing range of diploma, degree and post-graduate programmes offered at the University’s Tauranga campus, including teaching, social sciences, social work, science, business, management, tourism and law.
Teaching and social sciences lecturers ran mini-lectures during the day and the Waikato Management School summarised the University’s business and management programmes offered at the Bongard Centre.
The University of Waikato’s presence in the Bay of Plenty is growing steadily every year, with 2011 student numbers attending the Tauranga campus already 15% up on last year.
The range of programmes on offer is also increasing as the University’s partnership with the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, and Whakatane-based Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiarangi, which became part of the partnership last year, work together to provide pathways for students, and work with the community to identify educational needs.
