World Vision calls Zoë

15 August 2016

A girl with a vision – Zoë Lapwood has been selected as the regional lead and ambassador for World Vision.

Hillary scholar Zoë Lapwood has been selected as a regional lead and ambassador for World Vision.

Between five to ten New Zealanders have been selected for various regions, and Zoë says it's “a huge honour” to be the representative for Waikato.

“It’s always been a passion of mine to be involved with World Vision, but to be a regional lead came as such a shock,” she says.

“I have the opportunity and tools to spread and build the World Vision community in our region and also to collaborate with other regions. To be surrounded by others who are like-minded and share the same dream is inspiring in itself. It’s all very exciting.”

Zoë’s also in the middle of a selection process for being a National Youth Ambassador. If successful, she will attend a World Vision camp in Auckland and be selected to travel overseas, helping with the current refugee crisis.

She’s not the first Hillary scholar to be involved with World Vision. Alumni and Hillary medalist Alex Hitchmough now works for the not-for-profit organisation and was one of the people who interviewed Zoë for her application as a national ambassador.

“My ultimate goal is to travel overseas as a World Vision Youth Ambassador. To experience the hardships of others and be able to help them in some way would be life-changing," Zoë says.

Zoë is in her first year of a Bachelor of Management Studies. She is a first-year Hillary scholar specialising in singing and song-writing.
