How do you register your student ID Card?
Students get an ID Card at enrolment time. You need to register your card at an ID Card kiosk; 24 hours after you get your ID card, so that you can log on to the university computers. Please write down your username, and remember your password.
ID Card kiosks are located at:
- LAIN2.G.10 (Gallery)
- Level Two of the Central Library (Student Centre)

Accessing the internet and Lightwire
To access the internet, students can click on the Internet Explorer icon and at the prompt, enter your login username and password. A Lightwire account has already been created and linked with your username. Students will have 1.5GB of free internet usage per month.
For help with Lightwire
Students need to ask their teacher if they have problems with Lightwire. You can email Lightwire at support@lightwire.co.nz or ring 0800 12 13 14.
How do you access your gmail account?
Go to: http://webmail.waikato.ac.nz/
Your university gmail account is (yourusername@waikato.ac.nz). You need to to go through the initilization process. Click here.
Do you have a problem activating your ID Card?
Go to Waikato Pathways College Reception (LAIN 2).
How do you load money onto your UniCash account for photocopying and printing?
The Student ID Card is used for printing and copying. If you want to print or photocopy, you need to load money onto your account.
Costs are as follows :
- Printing — 10c per page; single-side A4 and 20c for double-sided A4
- Photocopying — 10c per page; single-side A4 and 20c for double-sided A4
You can load money onto your UniCash account at:
- Level 2 of the Central Library (available Library hours) — cash & eftpos. For library hours, go to: http://www.waikato.ac.nz/library
- Waikato Print in the Village Green (available office hours) — eftpos only.
- Pay online using your credit card. Go to: help.waikato.ac.nz > Students > Unicash Credit Card Utility.
How do you find out your UniCash balance?
Open Internet Explorer > Staff + Student Login > Log in > UniCash Account> 1 Card Balance.
Have you lost your ID card?
Go to WPC Reception (LAIN 2).

Can I get refunds from my Student ID Card?
No refunds are available from the ID Card. Students are encouraged to put only small amounts of money on their card.
