The Certificate of University Preparation (CUP) is a full-time formal qualification offered jointly by the University of Waikato and Wintec. It will be taught on the University of Waikato's Hamilton campus in Hillcrest and students will have access to the full range of services and facilities.

CUP is for students who don't initially meet the entry requirements for study at a New Zealand university, or who need additional academic preparation. If you left school but have studied to year 13 in New Zealand, or you left school some time ago, then this Certificate programme can help you make the transition into degree-level study.

The Cup programme consists of four papers, two of which are compulsory: Study Skills and Critical Thought and Expression. You can choose your other two papers from a range of available options, depending on which direction you may wish to pursue at degree level.

After successfully completing the Certificate, you can then apply for a degree.

This Certificate programme has an orientation session on Monday 5 March 2012 during the the first compulsory lecture starting at 10am in L.G.01.

Classes for Semester A start on Monday 5 March 2012 and finish in late June. Classes for Semester B start on Monday 16 July 2011 and fisnish in late October. There will be an orientation session as part of the first lecture. For a full-time student, there are up to 15 hours of tuition a week and approximately 18 hours study per week.
