The IPL hosted 14 lecturers from Zhejiang University City College (ZUCC) in China for two weeks during August.
These academics come from a range of disciplines including law, electrical engineering, computer science, medicine, foreign languages, business, artistic design and creation and professional development.
They stay with host families and came to campus each day to engage in their learning. The key focus is to improve their written and spoken English and to look at tertiary pedagogy used here at Waikato. This is the fifth year that we have hosted lecturers from ZUCC and from the feedback given they find it a very valuable learning opportunity. Our Waikato lecturers have covered a range of areas from an overview of the NZ education system, educational research and publication, analysis of video data, through to flipped classroom and cultural responsive pedagogies.
The ZUCC lecturers have also spent one day each week at a faculty where they were able to observe and discuss theory in action. This has been a great experience for all involved and we look forward to hosting more lecturers from ZUCC next year.
