The Gemini Trust Disability Scholarship

Amount:
Up to $5000
Criteria:
The Scholarship shall be awarded annually to one or more undergraduate student/s who have completed at least one year of University study, and whose home is in the Waikato, King Country or Coromandel regions. The selection criteria will be based on academic merit and individual physical disability needs faced by the applicants. The successful applicant(s) may be intending to study part-time or full-time and must be either a New Zealand citizen or be a permanent resident of New Zealand. Applicants must submit a CV of no more than 4 pages in length. Applicants must also include a statement of not more than 200 words indicating why they feel that they are worthy candidates for the Scholarship. In this statement, applicants are required to substantiate how the Scholarship will remove barriers to learning in their own particular circumstances.

Mary Adeline Allen Scholarship

Amount:
Up to $2000. More than one scholarship may be awarded
Criteria:
Available annually to a deaf or hearing impaired student attending a recognised post-secondary educational institution. This scholarship is to be used to pay for course fees.

NFD Training & Development Scholarship

Amount:
Approximately $14,000 - $15,000 is available for distributed each year
Criteria:
Any individual (deaf, hearing impaired or hearing), or group who is working with the National Foundation for the Deaf, its member groups or for deaf or hearing impaired people.
A portion of the Scholarship income will be used to support interpreter training in New Zealand

Advanced Learning Scholarship (includes Rose Scholarship)

Applicants must be deaf and aged 21 or over. The scholarships are available to assist with extra educational expenses incurred including interpreters, notetakers, paid buddy systems, photocopying and educational material.

Quest For Excellence Scholarship – Post-graduate Scholarship for Deaf or Hearing Impaired Graduates

Amount:
Up to $15000 (Scholarship covers fees, equipment, accommodation and anything else deemed appropriate by the administrator.
Criteria:
Moderate or greater hearing disability which affects the ability to communicate. NZ Citizenship or permanent residencey. Undertaking or intending to undertake postgraduate studies at a university either in NZ or overseas. Candidates may be self-nominated or nominated by one of their peers.

The National Foundation for the Deaf (NFD) Scholarships

Amount:
Approximately $6000 is available each year to be awarded to a number of applicants.
Criteria:
Hearing loss of 60dB or more in better ear. NZ citizens or permanent residents attending a recognized post secondary institution. Scholarship covers: fees, books, interpreters, notetakers, extra teaching, other course expenses.

Tertiary students with physical disabilities. This award is for students (full-time and part-time) or people undertaking research at a tertiary institution who have moderate to high needs, resulting from a physical disability. It was established for the purchases of computer and or associated equipment, communication or purchases of other hi-tech equipment, to enable people to achieve their educational or research goal.

Hammond Family Scholarship for Dyslexics

Criteria:
Available to help a dyslexic student attend university. Application is by written letter saying why the applicant should win the scholarship and the application MUST have a written assessment showing they are dyslexic. The main quality the Hammond Family is looking for is not necessarily academic merit; rather, courage. They are interested in applicants that have worked hard to achieve their grades, rather than solely academic excellence. This application is open to all applicable first year students.

National Foundation for the Deaf Notetaker/Communicator Fund

Amount:
Limit of $1000 to any one student
Criteria:
NFD has limited funds available to assist deaf and hearing impaired students enrolled in tertiary study, with some costs of providing notetakers, interpreters, communicators or extra tuition. Applicants must be deaf or hearing imparied taking a tertiray couse of study / training to further their education/skills, and who do not have access to such assistance from other sources.
This scholarship is open to all applicable first year students.

Sovereign Scholarship for a Student with a Disability

Criteria:
The scholarship is awarded annually to a student enrolled in no less than four Auckland Internal papers in the one academic year, deemed to have a disability. Summer vacation work is also offered.
This scholarship is open to all applicable first year students.

Shona Butterfield Scholarships

Up to $5000
Criteria:
The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage New Zealanders who have a disability to achieve their full potential in their area of study. Successful applicants will be provided with the opportunity to study in their own home, supported by freephone access to lecturer, library and other services.
The scholarship is available to students who have a disability and who are citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand. The scholarship will be an award of up to $5,000 available to an individual student (over a period of up to two years) to cover course costs and funds for textbooks.
Applications for the scholarship will need to be with The Open Polytechnic by 10 January, 2007.

Annually, CCS has grants to give away. You will see that the closing date noted on the brochure is 1st of November for each of the available grants however CCS are flexible around this date.

The National Foundation for the Deaf Training & Development Scholarship

Amount:
Criteria:
The NFD provides funds to support individuals to undertake further training which will assist their development and will benefit Deaf and Hearing-Impaired people in New Zealand.
Applications will also be considered from groups wishing to provide courses or training for a wider group of people, provided it will benefit Deaf and Hearing-Impaired people.
Scholarships may be requested by any individual who is Deaf, Hearing-Impaired or hearing or any group who is working with the National Foundation for the Deaf, Member Groups or Deaf or Hearing-Impaired people. (Please note that this scholarship is not available for NFD or Member Group staff training). Scholarships are available for
- participation in a course at a local or overseas venue
- gathering resources for educational and/or social purposes
- attending a conference provided that it can be clearly shown that the conference
- has an important training function or there are associated courses.
A proportion of the scholarship income will be used to support Interpreter Training in New Zealand. Successful applicants will be asked to submit a brief report within six weeks of attending the course.
