What is it?

The Student Poster Conference was established three years ago by the University of Waikato, its commercialisation arm, WaikatoLink, and NZBIO as an opportunity for students to present original research and development in biotechnology to others in their field, including senior academics, researchers, and biotech industry representatives. This event is a networking opportunity for students, University staff and biotech industry representatives to foster and strengthen relationships as well as develop mutual knowledge of current areas of research and research interest.

How does it work?

Register for the conference by entering your details and your research abstract below. Then create a poster, or utilise a poster you have already produced, to showcase your research in biotechnology and/or the wider bioeconomy.

Judging criteria

Posters will be judged on the quality, originality and potential impact of the research presented. In general, posters should present concise data and commentary which conveys your research and/or development and any conclusions which can be drawn. Posters should be no larger than A0 (841mm × 1189mm) and can be A1 (594 × 841) if preferred. Along with a succinct title, there should be a list of authors who contributed to the work, and suitable references.

Who is eligible to enter?

The Waikato Sustainable Bioeconomy Student Poster Conference is open to all students in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions who are conducting research in biotechnology and/or the bioeconomy at graduate or postgraduate level, or for a recognised summer research programme.

Eligible areas of research include biotechnology at all scales and disciplines. A non-exhaustive list of eligible research disciplines ranges from molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, biochemistry and environmental sustainability, to bioinformatics, biosensor technology, engineering, economics, intellectual property, public policy and ethics. Students are likely to be enrolled in a science, engineering, computing, mathematics, law or management discipline, but students enrolled in other disciplines whose research crosses into biotechnology and the bioeconomy are also eligible.

If you are uncertain of your eligibility, check with your supervisor or contact Janine Cowling from NZBIO at janine.cowling@nzbio.org.nz
