Bachelor of Arts (BA)

Requirements

The BA requires three years of full-time study or the equivalent in part-time study. You will choose an Arts subject offered by the School that you would like to study in depth (your major subject) over three years. At the same time you can choose a second major or a supporting subject. The remaining papers are your electives.

  • You must gain at least 360 points.
  • At least 240 points must be above 100 level, of which at least 80 points must be above 200 level.
  • You must complete a major subject comprising 120 points above 100 level, of which 60 points must be at 300 level.
  • You must complete a supporting subject comprising 70 points, of which 40 points must be above 100 level. If you are doing a double major, the second major fulfils this requirement.
  • You must include any compulsory papers for a major or supporting subject.
  • You may take up to 80 points outside the field (Arts subject). If you are doing a second major outside the field, you may take up to 120 points to complete that major.

Single Major Structure

This structure sets out the minimum requirements for the BA with a single Major.

Notes

  • 100 level papers are introductory papers and are normally taken in your first year of study.
  • You can do more than the minimum requirement by taking advanced papers.
  • You are normally required to take at least four 100 level papers before going on to 200 level.
  • You must also meet any pre-requisite requirements.

* These papers may be pre-requisites to your 200 Level papers for the Major.
