Undergraduate Programmes

The undergraduate programme provides students with a critical understanding of the field of development and an introduction to the skills necessary for development practice. The core papers focus on three specific areas:

  1. a global overview of indigenous people's development experience;
  2. the Māori experience; and
  3. the Pacific experience.

Students wishing to complete Māori and Pacific Development as a major subject for the BMPD, the BSocSc or the BA must pass at least eight papers from those listed below, including six papers above Level 1, and three papers above Level 2. Students must include the three core papers MPDV100, MPDV200 and MPDV300.

All students intending to enrol in the graduate programme in Development Studies, regardless of their major, are strongly encouraged to complete at least the core papers in Māori and Pacific Development.

Students are advised to consult with the Academic Advisor of Development Studies regarding their programme in Māori and Pacific Development, regardless of their programme of study prior to enrolling.

The following core papers for a major in Māori and Pacific Development are taught within the Department. The remainder of the programme consists of papers offered in other Schools/Faculty of the University.
