NEW SCHOLARSHIP available for B and T Semester enrolments
Te Pua Wānanga ki te Ao Excellence Award for B and T Semester Enrolments 2011
These awards were established by the School of Māori and Pacific Development - Te Pua Wānanga ki te Ao in 2011.
The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage and support Māori students who enrol in the School of Māori and Pacific Development in the B and/or T semester(s). The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit, personal character, and involvement in cultural, academic, and community life. The value of the Awards in 2011 will be up to $3,000. The maximum tenure of a scholarship will be one year.
These Awards are designed to encourage students, who have not already done so, to enrol in a programme of study offered through the School of Māori and Pacific Development in the B and/or T semester(s). The B semester, which commences on 12 July 2011, comprises papers taught over weeks 28-44. The T semester, which commences on 8 November 2011, comprises papers taught over weeks 45-50.
Applications must be submitted, on the prescribed application form, by 23 June 2011.

Waikato student has sights set on Te Matatini
University of Waikato student Paora Brosnan has his sights set on winning the top prize at Te Matatini - New Zealand's national kapa haka competition being held in Gisborne February 17-20.
Brosnan, 21, will be performing as part of eastern Bay of Plenty kapa haka group Opotiki Mai Tawhiti at this year's Te Matatini.
The university is a strategic partner of the four-day biennial competition, which will see more than 1500 performers from 13 regions across New Zealand and Australia take the stage.
Māori and indigenous education expert named to prestigious Marsden Fund Council
A leading international authority on Maori and indigenous education is one of three new appointees to the 11-member Marsden Fund Council, which oversees New Zealand's premier fund for basic research.
Professor Linda Tuhiwai Smith, Pro Vice-Chancellor Maori at the University of Waikato, has been named convenor of the Social Sciences panel for a three-year term.
Of Ngati Awa and Ngati Porou descent, she brings to the Council 26 years experience in the fields of Maori, educational and health research.
