Basketball

Basketball Waikato University Basketball Club Newly formed in 2016, the Waikato University Basketball club was established to enhance the basketball opportunities for students at the University of Waikato. Now open to both student and community members (non-students), the club is quickly growing in numbers. Catering for both competitive and social players, the club will enter at least seven teams into various basketball competitions in the Waikato. The club currently has two women’s teams competing in the St Peter’s Women’s League and has five men’s teams scheduled to play in the Waikato Basketball Men’s League starting in June. All teams have weekly training sessions at UniRec (the University of Waikato’s on campus fitness and recreation centre), and all competitive teams have dedicated coaches appointed for the season. Contact: uowbbclub@gmail.com More Information: Facebook [LINK - https://www.facebook.com/WaikatoUniversityBasketballClub/] Tertiary Events National Tertiary 3x3 Basketball Championships University of Waikato students have the opportunity to represent Team Waikato at the National Tertiary 3x3 Basketball Championships, a pathway tournament to the World University 3x3 Championships. Held on campus earlier this year, the university entered three teams into the event. The men’s A and B team finished second and fourth, while the women’s team finished in third place. National Tertiary Basketball Championships Join Team Waikato and represent the university at the National Tertiary Basketball Championships which are set to take place 26-28 August in Auckland. The University of Waikato Basketball Club

Catering for both competitive and social players, the club entered seven teams into the Waikato Basketball Men’s and Mixed Leagues in 2017 which started in June.

All teams have their weekly training sessions at the Faculty of Education (FOE) Gym or UniRec Sports Hall

UTSNZ events

UTSNZ National Tertiary 3x3 Basketball Championships

University of Waikato students have the opportunity to represent Team Waikato at the University and Tertiary Sport NZ (UTSNZ) National Tertiary 3x3 Basketball Championships, a pathway tournament to the World University 3x3 Championship League.

In 2017 the UoW men's team placed 3rd, and the UoW women's team placed 4th overall.

UTSNZ National Tertiary 5x5 Basketball Championships

Join Team Waikato and represent the University of Waikato at the UTSNZ National Tertiary 5x5 Basketball Championships held in Auckland on 21-23 September 2018.

UniRec, the University of Waikato's on-campus fitness and recreation centre, offers free drop-in basketball each week. All equipment is provided - just drop in and play. Ask UniRec reception for more information.
