Before immigrating to New Zealand in 1998, I worked in the secondary teaching sector in South Africa for 11 years. I joined the University of Waikato in 1999, initially as an English teacher with the Language Institute (Pathways College), and then at the Centre for Foundation Studies.
Since 2004 I have been teaching on the ESLA, Applied Linguistics and Linguistics programmes. I teach four of the suite of eight papers in the ESLA programme namely; ESLA300: Academic Research Writing, ESLA301: Academic Text: Understanding Meaning, ESLA200: Academic Written Discourse and ESLA102: Academic Oral Presentations. I also teach another undergraduate paper titled LING306: An Introduction to Second Language Teaching. In addtion to these, I co- teach two papers on the Post Graduate Diploma for Second Language Teaching namely; APPL555: Language Teaching, Observation and Practice 1 and APPL556: Langugae Teaching and Practice 2.
