Tuition fees: International students

International students are required by Immigration New Zealand to pre-pay one year’s tuition fees to the University of Waikato in order to be granted a student visa.

During each year of study, you will enrol in a number of papers, each of which has a points value. Your total annual fees are calculated on a per-paper basis and will vary depending on the number, subject area, and points value of the papers you select at the time of enrolment.

Fees for each paper are detailed in the Catalogue of Papers.

Most papers at undergraduate level are worth 15 or 20 points and a standard full-time load is 120 points per year.

In addition to tuition fees, all students are required to pay an annual fee for a number of university services. (eg. Building Levy and Student Services Levy). The actual amount you pay depends on your enrolment, but most full-time students will be required to pay approximately NZ$450 per year. This fee is paid at the time of enrolment.

To help you estimate your annual fees and costs, set out below are the approximate fees and other costs you are likely to incur if you are enrolled in 120 points. Students who enrol in more than 120 points will pay additional tuition fees.

All fees are quoted in New Zealand Dollars ($NZ)and include New Zealand Goods and Services Tax (GST). Tuition fees are set annually by the University. Fees are subject to change.
