Application & Fees

New Zealand follows the southern hemisphere academic year, beginning in March and ending in November. You may commence study in either Semester A (February/March - June) or Semester B (July - November).

Application Deadlines

  • Semester A (February/March - June): 1 December of the year prior to commencement.
  • Semester B (July - November): 1 May of the same year.

Supporting documentation:

  • Original or certified/notarised copies of academic transcripts from previous tertiary study, including graduation certificates if applying for postgraduate study
  • Evidence of English language proficiency (if applicable)
  • Verified copy of your passport or birth certificate

All academic transcripts and graduation certificates must be accompanied by an official English translation (if applicable). All photocopied documents must be verified/notarised by an authorised authority.

The International Enrolment Office will accept documents that have been verified/notarised by the study abroad office at your home institution. Scanned/faxed applications are acceptable for initial processing, however original documentation must be supplied before a formal offer of admission can be made.

An acknowledgment of your study abroad or exchange application will be sent within five working days of receipt. A conditional or formal Letter of Offer can be expected within four weeks. If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to contact our Study Abroad Enrolment Administrator Christine Shirley at cshirley@waikato.ac.nz.

Fees

In 2012 the standard tuition package for all study abroad students will be NZD $11,035 for one semester enrolment or NZ$22,070 for one academic year enrolment, which includes tuition for papers to a maximum of 70 credit points, all enrolment-related charges, and forwarding of an academic transcript at the conclusion of each semester.

Study Abroad packages do not include the  costs of field trips, text books or any additional resources that may be  required for the courses enrolled in. Students enrolling at the University of Waikato through a bilateral student exchange agreement pay tuition fees to their home university.
