The Government's free fees policy is kicking in for new tertiary students from 2018. There are still some details to be announced, but what we know for sure is that next year, a lot of New Zealanders will be eligible to spend a year at University without paying any tuition fees. If you’ve been thinking about getting a qualification but holding back because of the cost, make 2018 your year.

The undergraduate Certificate from Waikato University is an introductory, one-year qualification that you can take in a range of subjects. By the end of 2018 you could have a new Certificate on your wall and new opportunities within your grasp.

One-year Certificate: Here's what you could study

Certificate in Arts

Arts include psychology, languages, cultural studies, politics, philosophy, anthropology, geography and history - subjects which reveal human nature and the human mind. It’s up to you which area you focus on for your year’s study.

Diploma in Law (DipLaw)

This Diploma can be studied one-year full-time, or part-time over two years. It’s more comprehensive than a Certificate course, and includes study above 100-level.

Our highly practical Diploma in Law sets you up to explore new career opportunities or enhance your current role. The online component of the Diploma will allow you to fit your studies around work and family commitments. And if you discover that Law is for you, you could even credit completed Diploma papers towards your first and second years of a Bachelor of Laws.

The DipLaw requires 150 points of study, which is 30 points more than a standard year. If you qualify for a year's free fees it is likely that your entitement will cover 120 points' tuition fees.
