School Leaver Scholarships

Are you seeking an education that rewards success? We understand that helping with tuition fees and accommodation costs will go a long way towards you achieving the very best of your potential.

Here is a selection of scholarships available to you when you enrol to study. Contact your Future Student Adviser for more information about these scholarships.

Bartlett Scholarship

For school leavers who are intending to enrol full-time (120 pts) in the first year of an undergraduate degree in the Waikato Management School. Applicants must be enrolling in at least one accounting paper in the year of tenure and be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $1,500.

Beef + Lamb Undergraduate Scholarship

For students who are studying towards a bachelors degree and/or an honours year in agriculture, science (including food technology), business and social science disciplines. These disciplines may lead to careers in the livestock, meat and related agribusiness sectors. The Scholarship is for up to four years and will pay full annual tuition fees, up to $5,000 per year.

Brian Smith Memorial Entrance Scholarship

For school leavers who are intending to enrol full-time (120 pts) in the first year of an undergraduate degree in the Waikato Management School. Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $1,800.

Buckley Scholarship

For school leavers who are intending to enrol full-time (120 pts) in the first year of an undergraduate degree in the Waikato Management School. Candidates must be enrolling in at least one paper in Accounting in the year of tenure and be a New Zealand citizens or permanent resident. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $1,500.

Computer Science Undergraduate Scholarship

For students who are currently in Year 12 or Year 13 at a New Zealand secondary school. Candidates must be intending to enrol full-time in a BCMS(Hons), BSc, BSc(Tech), BE(Hons) or BDes degree, in one of the computing streams, at the University of Waikato. Candidates will sit a Scholarship exam, which will be held on 19 and 20 October 2018.

D.V. Bryant Trust University of Waikato Residential Scholarship

For school leavers intending to enrol full-time (minimum 120 pts) in the first year of an undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato, and commencing study in A semester in the year of tenure. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $10,000 and will be applied towards the successful recipients Bryant Hall or Student Village Halls of Residence Accommodation Fees.

DairyNZ Undergraduate Scholarships

For students intending to enrol full-time in an undergraduate degree in a dairy related area at Lincoln, Massey or the University of Waikato in the year following application. The Scholarship will be paid towards tuition fees and will have a value of up to $6,325 for up to four years.

Edna Money Future Pacific Leaders' Scholarship

For domestic students of Pacific Island descent who in the year following application will be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato. The aim of this Scholarship is to provide support for students to achieve academically at the University of Waikato.

Energy Education Trust Undergraduate Scholarship

For students who are enrolled full-time at any level (and including) first and honours year of relevant degree and are undertaking study in the fields of science, economics, or engineering and related fields with specific interests in energy matters. The Scholarship will have a value of $5,000.

Michael Baldwin Memorial Scholarship

For citizens of any South Pacific Nation (excluding New Zealanders’ and Australians), who can demonstrate a need for financial support in order to undertake study. Candidates must be enrolled or intending to enrol in an approved full-time study. The scholarship is valued up to $10,000.

Pacific Excellence Scholarship

For domestic students of Pacific Island descent who are currently studying at NCEA Level 3 towards University Entrance and who intend to enrol full-time in an undergraduate degree at UoW in 2019. The Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of meritorious achievement and connection to the Pacific community.

Paul Woodford Day Melville High School Scholarship for Excellence

The Principal of Melville High School can nominate a Year 13 student who demonstrates academic excellence. This student should also be intending to enrol at the University of Waikato in 2019. This scholarship is by nomination only.

Raukawa Settlement Trust and Mercury Partnership Scholarship with the University of Waikato

For students who are a registered member on the Raukawa Settlement Trust Tribal Database and who will be enrolled full-time (i.e. 120 points) in an undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato in 2018.

Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship

For school leaver and gap year students who demonstrate academic achievement, significant achievement to date and potential to further excel in either a sport or a creative or performing art, and a strong potential for leadership.

Sir Robert Jones Scholarship

For young women from refugee background to help them complete a university degree or tertiary qualification. Tuition fees will be paid in full through to degree attainment, subject to satisfactory examination results. Accommodation may be covered for the first two years of study if the successful applicant attends a tertiary institution outside of their home town.

Te Ara Whānui Scholarship

For domestic students enrolled at a NZ secondary school in 2018 who are intending to enrol full-time at UoW in 2019. This Scholarship recognises the importance UoW assigns to fostering, developing and protecting excellence of Māori, and kapa haka, kaupapa Māori, tikanga, reo and mātauranga Māori. It provides a platform for Māori students to strive for excellence in a programme of study at UoW.

Te Paewai o te Rangi: The University of Waikato Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement

For students who are intending to enrol full-time in an undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato for the first time in 2018. Applicants must have achieved NCEA Level 2 with Excellence or the equivalent through CIE or IB (see appendix A of the regulations for equivalencies). Applicants must also provide evidence of leadership and community involvement.

Te Piringa - Faculty of Law Endeavour Scholarship

For students enrolling in Te Piringa - Faculty of Law who have proven academic potential, whose financial circumstances are severely constrained or for who there are other special circumstances which would much make such a scholarship a significant means of enhancing their academic success.

Te Piringa - Faculty of Law Entrance Scholarship

For school leavers who are intending to enrol full-time in the first year of an LLB, Diploma in Law or a conjoint degree within Te Piringa – Faculty of Law at the University of Waikato. The scholarship will have a value of up to $2,000.

The 'Ko Te Tangata' Scholarship (Bay of Plenty Schools)

For school leaver and gap year students who are NZ citizens or permanent residents, studying at NCEA Level 3 (or equivalent) at a secondary school within the Bay of Plenty region (see map in Appendix 1 of the regulations), and intending to enrol full-time (120 points) in an undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato for the first time in the year of tenure.

The 'Ko Te Tangata' Scholarship (Waikato Schools)

For school leaver and gap year students who are NZ citizens or permanent residents, studying at NCEA Level 3 (or equivalent) at a secondary school within the Waikato region (see map in Appendix 1 of the regulations), and intending to enrol full-time (120 points) in an undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato for the first time in the year of tenure.

The Manu Kaewa (School Leavers) Scholarship

For school leaver and gap year students who are NZ citizens or permanent residents, studying at NCEA Level 3 (or equivalent) at either a NZ secondary school outside of the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions (see map in Appendix 1 of the regulations) or at an overseas secondary school, and intending to enrol full-time (120 points) in an undergraduate degree at UoW for the first time in 2019.

The University of Waikato GEMS Scholarship

For students who are enrolled at a GEMS Education Network School in the year prior to tenure. Applicants must be intending to enrol at the University of Waikato for the first time in a undergraduate degree.

University of Waikato Chiefs Super Rugby Scholarship

For domestic students who will be contracted Chiefs rugby players in 2018 and who intend to enrol in either full-time or part-time study at the University of Waikato.

University of Waikato Magic Netball Scholarship

For domestic students who are contracted members of Magic Netball and who will be enrolling full-time or part-time in an undergraduate programme of study at the University of Waikato in 2018.

University of Waikato Rugby Development Scholarship

For domestic students who are considered by the Waikato Rugby Union to be genuine prospects for future Waikato Mitre 10 Cup/Farah Palmer Cup Representative Teams and who will be part of the Rugby Union Academy/Development System and/or playing representative rugby for Waikato in the year of tenure. Applicants must be intending to enrol in an undergraduate degree at UoW in the year of tenure.

University of Waikato Squash Scholarship

For domestic students who are: genuine prospects for future representation-level Squash in the Waikato and/or NZ; members of a NZ Squash Federation affiliated club and/or playing representative Squash for Waikato in 2018; and enrolled part- or full-time in an undergraduate or graduate programme of study at the University of Waikato in 2018.

Waitaha-A-Hei / University of Waikato Scholarship

For students who are a registered beneficiary with Te Kapu o Waitaha and are currently studying towards NCEA Level 3 or equivalent in the year prior to tenure. Applicants must be intending to enrol full-time in an undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato.
