School Leaver Scholarships

Are you seeking an education that rewards success? We understand that helping with tuition fees and accommodation costs will go a long way towards you achieving the very best of your potential.

Here is a selection of scholarships available to you when you enrol to study. Contact your Future Student Adviser for more information about these scholarships.

Bartlett Scholarship

For school leavers who are intending to enrol full-time (120 pts) in the first year of an undergraduate degree in the Waikato Management School. Applicants must be enrolling in at least one accounting paper in the year of tenure and be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $1,500.

Beef + Lamb Undergraduate Scholarship

For students who are studying towards a bachelors degree and/or an honours year in agriculture, science (including food technology), business and social science disciplines. These disciplines may lead to careers in the livestock, meat and related agribusiness sectors. The Scholarship is for up to four years and will pay full annual tuition fees, up to $5,000 per year.

Brian Smith Memorial Entrance Scholarship

For school leavers who are intending to enrol full-time (120 pts) in the first year of an undergraduate degree in the Waikato Management School. Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $1,800.

Buckley Scholarship

For school leavers who are intending to enrol full-time (120 pts) in the first year of an undergraduate degree in the Waikato Management School. Candidates must be enrolling in at least one paper in Accounting in the year of tenure and be a New Zealand citizens or permanent resident. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $1,500.

CMS International Exchange Scholarship

For students who have completed at least one year of study in the Faculty of Computing & Mathematical Sciences (FCMS), applied for a University of Waikato exchange programme, and who are currently enrolled full-time in FCMS.

Computer Science Undergraduate Scholarship

For students who are currently in Year 12 or Year 13 and who are studying at a New Zealand High School. Students should be intending to enrol in a BCMS(Hons), BSc, BSc(Tech), BE(Hons) or BDes degree, in one of the computing streams, at the University of Waikato. Students will sit a Scholarship exam. The exam will be held on 20 and 21 October 2017.

D.V. Bryant Trust University of Waikato Residential Scholarship

For school leavers intending to enrol full-time (minimum 120 pts) in the first year of an undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato, and commencing study in A semester in the year of tenure. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $7,000 and will be applied towards the successful recipients Bryant Hall or Student Village Halls of Residence Accommodation Fees.

DairyNZ Undergraduate Scholarships

For students intending to enrol full-time in an undergraduate degree in a dairy related area at Lincoln, Massey or the University of Waikato in the year following application. The Scholarship will be paid towards tuition fees and will have a value of up $6,325 for up to four years.

Design Fees Scholarship

For school leaver students intending to enrol full-time in the first year of an undergraduate degree, with a major in either Communication Design, Interface Design or Media Design, within the Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Waikato. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $5,000.

Edna Money Future Pacific Leaders' Scholarship

For students who in the year preceding will be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato and are New Zealand citizens or permanent residents of Pacific Island descent. The aim is to provide support for students to achieve academically and to develop leadership skills through a tailored leadership and personal development programme.

Energy Education Trust Undergraduate Scholarship

For students who are enrolled full-time at any level (and including) first and honours year of relevant degree and are undertaking study in the fields of science, economics, or engineering and related fields with specific interests in energy matters. The Scholarship will have a value of $5,000.

Engineering Admission Fees Scholarship

For students who are intending to enrol full-time (120 pts) in the first year of a Bachelor of Engineering(Honours) degree in the Faculty of Science & Engineering at the University of Waikato and are currently completing the final year of secondary school. The Scholarship has a value of up to $4,000

Generation Study Abroad Excellence & Travel Awards

Education New Zealand and New Zealand tertiary institutions are supporting Generation Study Abroad students with excellence and travel awards. There are two different scholarships available to US Citizens for study in NZ; the Education NZ Study Abroad Travel Awards and the Generation Study Abroad NZ Universities Excellence Awards. Mathematics Fees Scholarship

For students intending to enrol full-time in the first year of an undergraduate degree, majoring in Mathematics, in the Faculty of Computing & Mathematical Sciences. Students will sit a Scholarship exam. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $5,000.

Michael Baldwin Memorial Scholarship

For citizens of any South Pacific Nation (excluding New Zealanders’ and Australians), who can demonstrate a need for financial support in order to undertake study. Candidates must be enrolled or intending to enrol in an approved full-time study. The scholarship is valued up to $10,000.

Northland Future Leaders' School Leaver Scholarship

For students who are intending to enrol full-time at the University of Waikato in an undergraduate degree and are currently completing Year 13 at a Northland Secondary School. All eligible students must be nominated by their Secondary School Principal. The Scholarship will have a value of $5,000.

Paul Woodford Day Melville High School Scholarship for Excellence

The Principal of Melville High School can nominate a Year 13 student who demonstrates academic excellence. This student should also be intending to enrol at the University of Waikato in 2018. The Scholarship will have a value of $5,000. This scholarship is by nomination only.

Project Ignite Scholarship Programme

To be eligible for consideration for the scholarship, applicants must be enrolled at the University of Waikato or Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology at the time of application or have recently graduated from either of these institutions. The scholarship will have a value of $5,000.

Raukawa Settlement Trust and Mercury Partnership Scholarship with the University of Waikato

For students who are a registered member on the Raukawa Settlement Trust Tribal Database and who will be enrolled full-time (i.e. 120 points) in an undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato in 2018.

Science Admission Fees Scholarship

For school leavers who are intending to enrol full-time (120 pts) in the first year of a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Science(Technology) in the Faculty of Science & Engineering and are performing well academically in their final year of secondary school. The Scholarship has a value of up to $4,000.

Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship

For school leaver and gap year students who demonstrate academic achievement, significant achievement to date and potential to further excel in either a sport or a creative or performing art, and a strong potential for leadership. The value of the Scholarship is up to $10,000 per annum for the duration of an undergraduate qualification, subject to continuing to meet the Scholarship's requirements.

Sir Robert Jones Scholarship

For young women from refugee background to help them complete a university degree or tertiary qualification. Tuition fees will be paid in full through to degree attainment, subject to satisfactory examination results. Accommodation may be covered for the first two years of study if the successful applicant attends a tertiary institution outside of their home town.

Start-up Waikato Scholarship Programme

For students who are enrolled at the University of Waikato at the time of application or have recently graduated from the University of Waikato. The programme provides a unique, hands-on experience for the participants tailored to progress their ideas through to start-up ventures under the guidance of an expert start-up coach.

Step Higher Award

For current Sir Edmund Hillary Scholars only. Applicants must demonstrate commitment to the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship Programme by continually meeting the requirements of the three pillars of the Scholarship. In particular, applicants must demonstrate leadership excellence, defined as ‘engaging others to strive for shared goals that positively impact the community’.

Te Ara ki Angitū Scholarship

Te Ara ki Angitū - Pathway to Excellence Scholarships Programme provides support to a large number of waikato regional secondary schools. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of evidence of financial need, personal circumstances, leadership and community roles, academic ability, and commitment to succeed in university study.

Te Paewai o te Rangi: The University of Waikato Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement

For students who are intending to enrol full-time in an undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato for the first time in 2018. Applicants must have achieved NCEA Level 2 with Excellence or the equivalent through CIE or IB (see appendix A of the regulations for equivalencies). Applicants must also provide evidence of leadership and community involvement.

Te Piringa - Faculty of Law Endeavour Scholarship

For students enrolling in Te Piringa - Faculty of Law who have proven academic potential, whose financial circumstances are severely constrained or for who there are other special circumstances which would much make such a scholarship a significant means of enhancing their academic success.

Te Piringa - Faculty of Law Entrance Scholarship

For school leavers who are intending to enrol full-time in the first year of an LLB, Diploma in Law or a conjoint degree within Te Piringa – Faculty of Law at the University of Waikato. The scholarship will have a value of up to $2,000.

Te Pua Wānanga ki te Ao - The Faculty of Māori and Indigenous Studies Scholarship for Academic Distinction

For students who have been enrolled in the New Zealand Secondary School system in 2016 and 2017 and are intending to enrol full-time in the Faculty of Maori and Indigenous Studies in one of the three majors. The Scholarship will have a value of $10,000 and will be paid directly towards tuition fees only.

The Bachelor of Business Future Ambassadors Scholarship

For school leavers from Hamilton Boys' High School, Hamilton Girls' High School, Cambridge High School and Hillcrest High School who are intending to enrol full-time in the first year of a Bachelor of Business at the Waikato Management School in 2018.

The University of Waikato Academic Merit School Leaver Scholarship - B Semester 2017

Candidate's will be considered in two tiers. Tier 1 - for students who will be enrolling full-time in an undergraduate degree commencing in B sem 2017 and Tier 2 - for students who have completed a semester at another university and will be enrolling full-time commencing in B sem 2017. Both tiers must be endorsed with NCEA Level 3 with Merit.

The University of Waikato School Leaver Scholarship

For students commencing full-time study in the first year of an undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato. The scholarship is based on academic achievement and will provide support towards either tuition fees or accommodation in the University's halls of residence. An application to enrol at the University will be taken as a scholarship application, and no separate application is required.

The Vice-Chancellor's Academic Excellence Scholarship for Gap Year Students

For students who have completed year 13 in 2016 and are currently taking a 'Gap Year' in 2017, who meet the entry criteria for their specific programme of study, and have gained NCEA Level 3 Certificate endorsed with Excellence. The value of the scholarship will be $5,000 and will be applied towards tuition fees or accommodation fees in the University's Hall of Residence.

The Vice-Chancellor's Academic Excellence School Leaver Scholarship - B Semester 2017

Candidate's will be considered in two tiers. Tier 1 - for students who will be enrolling full-time in an undergraduate degree commencing in B sem 2017 and Tier 2 - for students who have completed a semester at another university and will be enrolling full-time commencing in B sem 2017. Both tiers must be endorsed with NCEA Level 3 with Excellence.

University of Waikato Academic Merit Scholarship for Gap Year Students

For students who have completed year 13 in 2016 and are currently taking a 'Gap Year' in 2017, who meet the entry criteria for their specific programme of study, and have gained NCEA Level 3 Certificate endorsed with Merit. The value of the scholarship will be $3,000 and will be applied towards tuition fees or accommodation fees in the University's Hall of Residence.

University of Waikato Chiefs Super Rugby Scholarship

For domestic students who will be contracted Chiefs rugby players in 2018 and who intend to enrol in either full-time or part-time study at the University of Waikato.

University of Waikato Magic Netball Scholarship

For domestic students who are contracted members of Magic Netball and who will be enrolling full-time or part-time in an undergraduate programme of study at the University of Waikato in 2018.

University of Waikato Rugby Development Scholarship

For domestic students who are considered by the Waikato Rugby Union to be genuine prospects for future Waikato Mitre 10 Cup/Farah Palmer Cup Representative Teams and who will be part of the Rugby Union Academy/Development System and/or playing representative rugby for Waikato in 2018. Applicants must be intending to enrol in an undergraduate programme of study at UoW in the year of tenure.
